Welcome back to all staff and students! Welcome to all our newly appointed staff and our new students!

What a wonderful first week we have had already. On Monday all staff gathered together for a whole day of training on 'Compassion in Schools'. We have pledged to become a 'compassionate school' and this approach will help us to focus on our values at all times. Many staff have found the approach has helped them already! As soon as staff are comfortable in using the approach, we will of course be sharing information with parents and encouraging parents and students to become involved.

After such a positive day, we welcomed all our students back to school on Tuesday. How they have all grown! It is lovely to see all the new pupils integrating so quickly into their new friendship groups.

Another highlight this week was the Celebration Assembly, attended by the Bishop of Whitby and Arch Deacon from South Africa. The children made wishes and pinned them on a tree, placing their hopes that this year will be happy and successful. We had a reflection and a reading, as well as 3 popular songs. Thank you to Rev Sue Binks for organising!

Our staff are working hard on ensuring that our students have the best experience possible. A lot of work has gone on over the summer and we must thank all the staff involved for all their hard work whilst everyone else was on holiday!

Finally, I would like to inform parents that we have just begun the early stages of developing a school farm. The farm will provide opportunities for real life vocational learning, as well as sensory and therapeutic programmes. If any of our parents and carers would like to be involved, whether directly or by raising funds, please let me know!

I hope the happy and productive start sets the tone for the rest of the academic year; our students deserve no less than the best opportunities to thrive and our staff are working so hard to achieve this!

Thank you, Marianne
