Headteacher's Summer 2020 Message

Posted 20/7/2020

What an academic year this has been! Certainly unique, I think we can agree.

With the prevalence of Covid and from the onset of the lockdown, I have been extremely grateful to all staff who have universally acted selflessly throughout, including volunteering to keep school open during Easter and May half term. Staff have taken on new pupils, more pupils than normal and many other tasks that are outside of the normal timetable for them, all without complaint. Senior leaders and the Office staff have had to cope with sickness within their very small team, as well as multiple demands due to Covid on top of the normal stress! They did so with professionalism and the needs of children at the heart of everything.

Throughout this period, our parents/carers have supported us in supporting them and many new relationships have been formed or strengthened as a result.

The main stars have of course, been the students! They’ve kept us all positive and focusing on what they need, has helped the adults to cope with what has been an enormous logistical challenge.

12 young people have left us this summer, for pastures new. We have some very emotional moments this term and in particular we felt very sorry for the Year 14s. Some of them have been here since they were in primary school and due to Covid, were unable to have their various leaving ceremonies, traditional for the Year 14s. We did however, have a lovely BBQ, talent show and other ways of celebrating their time here and we made the most of it!

The high point of the year was in many ways, our prominent appearance on The Yorkshire Vet in June. This showed the school at its’ very best, with the students at the centre of the provision and achieving so much with the animals, in our beautiful grounds.
I hope you all our children and families have a restful and fun summer break and hopefully everyone stays safe and healthy! Thank you to everyone for all the support you have shown us throughout a very challenging few months. Roll on September and a fresh start!
