Lower KS4


This term we are focusing on geometry, measure and the properties of number. We use a lot of real life examples when discussing 3D shapes and use the wonderful outdoor surroundings in a lot of lessons. Pupils will also work towards gaining their entry level mathematics qualification through a mixture of coursework and exams.


This term we are reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. We will be researching well known authors as well as designing and making our own chocolate bars.  We also have weekly sessions on spelling, punctuation and grammar. Pupils will also work towards gaining their entry level English qualification through a mixture of coursework and oral exams.


This term we are focusing on Physics. We will be investigating electrical circuits as well as finding out about the solar system. Towards the end of each half term the students will take part in a science practical which will go towards their entry level science qualification. Last term we looked at the amount of energy in food and we set fire to different types of crisps!


In history we are studying the slave trade. We will be developing our research skills and will be creating fact files about certain aspects of the slave trade. Pupils will also take part in class debates discussion about what life was like for a slave during that time.


Our geography topic is climate and weather. We will investigate the climate here in the UK and compare our climate to others from around the world.  We will also use a range of tools to measure and record aspects of the weather such as temperature, wind speed and precipitation.


Our R.E. topic is about celebrations. Pupils will learn about the different celebrations enjoyed by different faiths. They will also explore how and why we all celebrate significant and personal events in our own lives.

Classroom pets

We have recently welcomed two class pets to our classroom. We have two boy guinea pigs named Rolo and Cosy Posey. Pets have been shown to help children develop social skills, social responsibility and help self-esteem. Having regular contact with animals has been shown to help develop collaboration and concentration skills. In addition to this it will develop their knowledge around caring for animals.
